Take Control of Your Life

They can’t make fun of you if you’re getting results. Just remember that.

We often don’t do things that aren’t “normal” because we are afraid of being made fun of or not being part of the “cool kids” club.

But today I want you to focus more on the end results instead of the feelings of doing something different.

Why?

Because getting results is Alpha.

You have to ask yourself what matters more….

The Results or The Your Feelings

We place a lot of value on our feelings and how people react to us. If we do something out of the norm, people might laugh. They might call us names. They might make fun of us.

But guess what?

  • No one is going to make fun of you if you’re getting results.
  • No one is going to make fun of you if you are better than them at (insert anything here)
  • No one is going to make fun of you for become the best

Sometimes you have to do things unconventionally to be the best.

Let me give you a few examples –

If you’re always worried about fitting in, you’re never going to really do what YOU want to do.

But more importantly, sometimes the most popular way to do something, isn’t the smartest.

Example Number 1

Shoot the basketball underhand for free throws.. Not cool right? And not a lot of people would do it. Even people that suck at making free throws. But one person did do it. Rick Barry. One of the greatest free throw shooters of all time. No one made fun of him because he got results. Rick Barry could give a flying sh*t about what people thought. He made free throws and that’s what mattered to him.

Example Number 2

I remember my friends used to make fun of me when I changed my style. I started dressing differently. Skinny jeans, cool t-shirts, leather jacket, cool hair. I looked pretty good compared to wearing khakis with a polo shirts with the typical spikey asian hair. But they stopped laughing when girls started giving me a lot of attention. Look different and get girls or look like a dork and be single? Not really a hard decision in hindsight!

Example Number 3

When all of my friends were applying to random job postings online as we graduated. I had my heart set on being an investment banker on Wall Street. So I did everything I could to make that happen. As a 21-22 year old, I networked with everyone. I asked everyone for help. I did something unconventional. People thought I was being a fool for asking random people I barely knew for help. But then it happened. I got the coveted job at Goldman Sachs. And all the doubters stop saying I was foolish but asked if I could help them. Put yourself out there and ask for help to get a job to set me up for life or get a desk job that I’ll hate? I think I’ll choose being brave and asking for help any day of the week.

Example Number 4

Two years ago I told friends I was going to quit my high finance job to become an entrepreneur. I didn’t like the people I was working for and the work had become boring. People said you can’t do that. You need a job. Just find another job if you’re unhappy. What you’re about to do is unsustainable. I thought about what they said, and I knew they were wrong. All they knew, was what they knew. But I was going to prove them wrong. And now, two years later, I’m making more money than I was working…more money than they are slaving away in their corporate jobs, and I have all the free time in the world to travel, train jujitsu and type this article and whatever else my heart desires. Long gone are the days of them doubting me. Now they want to know the secret.

I could share more examples of successful people or myself being brave and focusing on the results instead of the consequences of doing something different. But I don’t want to bore you. Instead I want you to focus on what is imporant.

What I know

I’m not the smartest guy in the world. But I know one thing based on my own experience and from what I’ve seen of other bold and successful people. It’s that you have to be brave. You have to be unconventional. You have to figure out what’s best for you, so that you can achieve your own end results.

I don’t know what your goals are. But I know you likely want to improve your life or yourself.

And if that is the case, then maybe you have to start doing things a little differently. Stop doing what everyone wants you to do. Stop worrying about how everyone is going to react or feel if you do things differently.

  • Focus on the results.
  • No one makes fun of someone with results.
  • No one makes fun of a champion.
  • No one makes fun of a winner.
  • Do you want to worry about fitting in or do you want to be the greatest and have people look up to you.

Tip #1 of this 30 day tips to Alpha is Be Brave. Have social courage. Do what gets you results.

Be Bold. Be Alpha.
